Guide To Chux
Some people hear the word chux and don’t know what it is, but many people have sat on one without knowing it. Chux is a medical term for a disposable pad which is put on a lot of examining tables and hospital beds where a patient will sit or lie down. It helps to protect equipment from bodily fluids and leakage and adds some padding to help keep the patient comfortable.
Uses
There are different uses for chux pads, both medical and non-medical. A really common use is for inside of the ambulance for the members of the EMT crew. They help the gurneys as well as other equipment free from blood while and emergency is going on. They’re also found in nursing homes, private homes, and hospitals to use with the patients who have trouble controlling their bladders, like those who are sick or elderly. It’s also common to use them during childbirth because a lot of fluids are often released. Some non-medical uses are training puppies and wrapping of breakable items during a move, such as china or glassware.
Features
They are normally white and blue and have a soft, thick absorbent batting that’s backed by a layer that is thin and waterproof. The softer layer absorbs fluids and the backing makes sure that the liquid isn’t going to seep through to whatever is below the patient. There are pads of different sizes available, from small enough for chairs and big enough for covering a whole bed. There are some that even have the ability to absorb as much as 2.5 cups before the pad is completely saturated. Heavy Duty Version
It’s also possible to buy a version of this pad that’s super-absorbent.
Some of these pads can absorb over 8 cups of fluid. Usually they are only available in the smaller sizes, and the largest of these are about 3 feet square.
Reusable
There are even versions that are reusable. While others need to be disposed of, these pads are washable and can be used again. This version is a good option for the people who have to stay in bed or have a problem with incontinence but not good for use in an emergency.
Chux are a great item to have when there’s a possibility of fluids getting all over and you want an easy clean up. Whether it’s for medical reasons or for puppy training, chux are a great option.
